Lady Rebels’ tennis fall in straight sets
The South Central girls’ tennis team was exposed to a top team Friday when it welcomed Paoli to Elizabeth.
Outmatched by the Lady Rams, South Central fell, 5-0, to the visitors.
‘Paoli is a monster team,’ South Central assistant coach Casey Hogan said. ‘They have arguably the best player in the area in (Abbie) Franklin. It was a great experience for our freshman to go toe-to-toe with that talent.’
South Central managed to pick off one game in four matches. Zoe Zwiebelmann snagged a game but lost to Jessica Fullington in No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1.
In No. 1 singles, Franklin defeated Hannah Pumphrey, 6-0, 6-0.
South Central’s No. 1 doubles team of Shelby Foley and Josie Faith also lost in straight sets to Hannah Balsmeyer and Luci Waynick.
Alyssa Osborn and Brandie Hankins made it a sweep for the Lady Rams, downing Suzanna Bond and Whitney McCoy, 6-0, 6-0.
‘Zoe had some great ground strokes today,’ Hogan said. ‘Josie moved very well. Once we start to get some match tactics down, we’ll be ready to compete with the best.’
Paoli won No. 3 singles by forfeit.
