Larry L. Rakestraw

Larry Lamar Rakestraw, 70, Lanesville, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
Born March 10, 1943, in Chandler Mountain, Ala., he was the son of the late Alden and Belle Osborn Rakestraw.
He was a retired truck driver, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church near Lanesville and an Army and Kentucky National Guard veteran.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Adrian and Cledies Rakestraw.
Survivors include his wife, the former Joann Schneider; a son, Greg Rakestraw of Indianapolis; a daughter, Kellie Cockerill of Brandenburg; two brothers, Aubrey Rakestraw of Steele, Ala., and Ricky Rakestraw of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Margie Potter of Birmingham, Ala., and Jean Rodgers of Lafayette, Ga.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, April 17, from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 18, from 1 to 8 p.m. and Friday, April 19, after 11 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Friday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in St. John’s Cemetery south of Lanesville.
Officiant: Pastor Christopher Truelsen.
Pallbearers: Don Travis, Don Johnson, Dale Link, Richard Posley, Jerry Tomes and Tim Leffler.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society or the St. John’s Lutheran Church General Fund.
