Kathleen B. Atkins

Kathleen B. Atkins, 78, formerly of Corydon, died Thursday Feb. 28, 2013, at her home near Brandenburg.
Born Feb. 21, 1935, in Riddle, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Margaret McClanahan Birkla.
She was retired from E.I. Dupont Denemours in Louisville and was a member of the VFW Post 2950 Ladies Auxiliary in Corydon and the American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post 28 Ladies Auxiliary in New Albany.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Atkins; a daughter, Lorna Kay Crosier; four brothers, Albert, Bobbie, Jerry and Bill Birkla; and three sisters, Barbara Birkla, Trudy Miler and Dee Crone.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Elaine McGuire of Brandenburg; three brothers, Lester Birkla of Elizabethtown, Ky., Joe Birkla of New Albany and Larry Birkla of St. Paul, N.C.; two sisters, Alice Weatherly of Corydon and Marie Bennett of Louisville; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, March 4, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a VFW Ladies Auxiliary service at 7, Tuesday, March 5, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, March 6, after 9 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Wednesday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with entombment in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
Pallbearers: Charles and Roger Crosier, Christopher and Dustin Bolen, Larry McGuire and Brent and John Birkla.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society or the VFW Post 2950 in Corydon.
