Merle W. Lawton Sr.
Merle Wayne Lawton Sr., 69, Louisville, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville.
Born Feb. 10, 1943, in Napa, Calif., he was the son of the late Earl and Florence Kumm Lawton.
He was a retired civilian employee at Offut Air Force Base near Omaha, Neb., and an Air Force veteran.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Merle Wayne Lawton Jr., and a brother, Melvin Lawton.
Survivors include his wife, the former Janice Louise Philpot Mitchell; two daughters, Michelle Lawton of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Kimberly Massey of Omaha, and their mother, Beverly Rodriguez of Council Bluffs; two stepdaughters, Diana Hutchison of Shepherdsville, Ky., and Laura Pusey of Mount Washington, Ky.; a brother, Norman Lawton of Corydon; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, Jan. 7, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 8, after 9 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Heidelberg Cemetery near Corydon.
Officiant: The Rev. Jim Higdon.
Pallbearers: David and Daniel Pusey, Mitchell Hutchison and Victor Lawton.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Hosparus or the American Cancer Society.
