Martha J. Jones

Martha Jane Chambers Jones, 89, Madison, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at 7:05 a.m. at Bee Hive Assisted Living in Scottsburg.
Born Feb. 4, 1923, in Rockhold, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Bailey and Nanny Harp Chambers.
She retired as a psychiatric attendant with the Madison State Hospital after 21 years of service and was a member of Hanover Baptist Church. While living in St. Cloud, Fla., for 10 years, she and her husband helped to build and found the Eastern Boulevard Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Woodrow Jones, on Aug. 6, 2009; a son, Gregory Warren Jones; two sisters, Myrtle Newman and Flora King; and a brother, Elbert Chambers.
Survivors include three daughters, Gail Jones of Madison and Betty Jett and Gwendolyn Reichenbach, both of Jeffersonville; two sons, Tommy Jones of Corydon and Terry Kenneth Jones of Melbourne, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Cloud of Dayton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison and Thursday, Dec. 13, after 10 a.m. at Hanover Baptist Church.
Funeral: Thursday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at the church with interment in Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison.
Officiant: The Rev. J.D. Traylor.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society or Hanover Baptist Church Building Fund.
