S. Creston Eckart

S. Creston Eckart, 84, Indianapolis, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at 1:27 p.m.
Born April 25, 1928, in Dogwood, he was the son of the late Straude Ray and Myrtle McKim Eckart.
He earned three bachelor’s degrees from Frankfort Bible College and Indiana Wesleyan University, as well as a master’s degree from Indiana State University. He was both teacher and principal at Ora Public School from 1954 to 1959, taught English and history at New Palestine High School from 1959 to 1963 and at Noblesville High School from 1963 to 1983. He was a member and president of Kiwanis Club in Indianapolis. An ordained minister in the Pilgrim Holiness denomination, and later in the Wesleyan denomination, he pastored at Farmington (Mo.) Pilgrim Holiness Church in 1951 and 1952, at Antioch Pilgrim Holiness Church in Bass Lake from 1954 to 1959 and at Warren Park Wesleyan Church in Indianapolis from 1959 to 1993. After retirement, he continued as assistant pastor beside the current senior pastor, his son, the Rev. Daniel Eckart, focusing primarily on visitation ministry.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Charlotte Long; a sister, Bonnie Brown; four sons, Philip, Daniel, Paul and Jeffrey; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, Nov. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Eastlawn Wesleyan Church in Indianapolis.
Home-going celebration: Friday, Nov. 23, at 4 p.m. at the church.
