Lanesville wins pair of SAC tilts, sit tops in league
Last week proved to be a pivotal one in the Southern Athletic Conference volleyball race for Lanesville.
Entering the week 2-0 in SAC play, the Lady Eagles had to hit the road to nail down tough wins against Henryville and Crothersville. Come late Saturday afternoon, the Lady Eagles completed the sweep, assuring themselves at least of a share of the SAC title.
Lanesville went to Henryville last Wednesday and swept the Lady Hornets. After winning the opening game, 25-19, the Lady Eagles battled to win the final two by identical 25-23 scores.
The showdown Saturday at Crothersville was in all likelihood the clash for the SAC title. The Lady Tigers entered 4-0 in league play but couldn’t handle Lanesville in five games. Lanesville won the marathon 20-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17 and 15-13.
Brooklynn Keinsley and Morgan Williams reached double-digit kills with 17 and 11, respectively. Keinsley also had 17 digs, while Williams had three aces. Also contributing to the offense were Robyn Schoen with eight kills and Hannah Conder with seven.
Setter Emma Bays paced the team with 38 assists, while defensive specialist Rachel Gary added 12 digs.
The win was the fifth in a row for the Lady Eagles. They improved to 4-0 in SAC play with the season finale set for Thursday, Oct. 11, when Lanesville will host Borden. The next game for the Lady Eagles, before facing the Lady Braves, will be Tuesday when West Washington comes to Lanesville.
