Marvin Zabel

Marvin (Boob) Herbert Zabel, 87, Georgetown, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville.
Born July 15, 1925, in Lanesville, he was the son of the late Julius and Augusta Walther Zabel.
He was an inspector for the Indiana State Highway Dept., the owner of Zabel Hardware in Lanesville, a plumber, a freelance photographer for The Courier-Journal, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lanesville and an Army veteran of World War II who received the Purple Heart.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Zabel.
Survivors include his nephew, Darrell Zabel who cared for him, and four stepchildren, Calvin Roberts of Georgetown, John Roberts of Pennsylvania, Judy Baker of New Salisbury and Lisa Owens Phoenix.
Visitation: Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown and Thursday, Sept. 6, after 9 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church south of Lanesville.
Funeral: Thursday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. at the church with burial in the church cemetery.
Officiant: The Rev. Christopher Truelsen.
