Girls’ golf kicks off with solid NH, Corydon showing
North Harrison’s Devan Smith started the fall season last Wednesday with an impressive round at Shadowood Golf Course to place third at the Seymour Invitational.
Smith played the front nine even par and eventually reached the clubhouse with a 1-over-par round of 74. Taking the medalist honor was Madison’s Amanda Detmer (68), while Seymour’s Paxton DeHaven (70) was second.
As a team, North Harrison placed 10th among 12 teams with a score of 459. Also carding 18-hole scores were Amanda Barnett (113), Shena Johnson (122) and Brittany McCarty (150).
The following day Corydon Central came out with the victory in a tri-match on the front nine at Old Capital Golf Club in Corydon.
The Lady Panthers finished with an 184 team score, outlasting Southridge (196) and Heritage Hills (285).
Taking medalist honors was Corydon Central’s Taylor Frederick, who carded a 5-over-par 41. Teammate Kennedy Nash was a close second with a 43.
Allison Bounds was the lowest among Southridge competitors with a 47.
Rounding out scores for Corydon Central were Sidney Capelle (48), Marie Rothrock (52), Kayla Uhl (53) and Cortlin Engleman (55).
North Harrison will host Salem tomorrow (Thursday) at New Salisbury Golf Course at 4:30 p.m.
Corydon Central will play in a three-way Monday at 5:15 p.m. against Silver Creek and Clarksville at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Sellersburg.
