Jean E. Shrout, 79, Ramsey, died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
Born near Depauw, she was the daughter of the late August H. and Cora Belle Whitman Smith.
She retired from the Kintner House and worked several years at The Fair Store, both in Corydon, and was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Frenchtown.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel D. Shrout I; a stepdaughter, Linda Lou Davis; three brothers, Alva J., Floyd and Ralph K. Smith; and a sister, Mae Nolot.
Survivors include three sons, Neil Toney of Salem, Ore., D. Stewart Toney II of Corydon and Samuel David Shrout II of New Albany; a daughter, Angela Jean Toney Martin of Ramsey; a brother, August J. Smith of Depauw; two sisters, Ruth Ellen Linton and Mary C. Nolot, both of Corydon; a stepson, Edward G. Shrout of Crawford County; a stepdaughter, Becky Reeder of Georgetown; her first husband, Dale S. Toney of Corydon; her companion, Frank Morain of Ramsey; and five grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, May 22, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, May 23, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey.
Funeral: Wednesday, May 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Frenchtown with burial in the church cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Bernard Catholic Church, the American Cancer Society or Vista Care Hospice.
