Distance sweep for SC’s Pease at SAC

Host Borden (117 points) finished just ahead of South Central (96) to claim the boys’ Southern Athletic Conference track and field team title Thursday. In the girls’ meet, Henryville ran away with the team honors while South Central’s Rachel Pease claimed victories in three events.
The South Central boys’ team was led by victories in a pair of field events. Collin Kendall and Aidan Romero finished 1-2, respectively, in the long jump. Kendall’s best leap was 19 feet, while Romero’s was 18 feet, 3 inches.
Kyle Pease took the second event for the Rebels, laying claim to the high jump. He cleared 6-2 for the honor.
Kendall was also strong in the 100-meter dash, finishing second with a time of 11.95 seconds. Teammate Jordan Sullivan was third in 12.31.
South Central’s best finish in the relay events came when the 400-relay team of Tyler Hutchinson, Ethan Foreman, Zac Goodwin and Sullivan placed second with a time of 48.94.
Other top South Central finishes were Hutchinson (third, 300 hurdles), Goodwin (third, 800) and Logan Carter (third, discus).
Lanesville had four first-place finishes but placed fourth with 81 points in the team standings.
Breaking nine minutes, the Lanesville 3,200-relay team (Isaac Blackman, Brandon Price, Travis Kaake and Gabe Sronce) won the opening track event with a time of 8:52.07.
Kaake and Blackman bounced back to win individual events later in the meet. Kaake was the best in the 800 (2:15.2), while Blackman claimed the 3,200 (10:39). Sronce was third in the 3,200.
The fourth Eagles’ victory came from Micah Lane, who won the 400 in 54 seconds. Lane also finished second in the 110 hurdles (17.82 seconds).
Other top Lanesville finishes were Price (third, 1,600) and Justin Dalhoff (second, shot put). The Eagles’ 1,600 relay team placed second.
In the girls’ meet, Henryville topped out with 153 points while New Washington was second with 113. South Central placed fifth (50), while Lanesville was sixth (21).
Of the 50 South Central points, Rachel Pease accounted for 30. Pease won the 1,600 comfortably in 5:47.5. She turned around and picked up the 800, winning by two seconds with a time of 2:36. Closing her day, Pease scored the top spot with a 29-second win in the 3,200 (13:29).
South Central picked up a bulk of its additional points when Baylie Crosier finished second in the high jump, clearing 4-11.
Lanesville’s best finish came in the 400 when Caryn Eisert placed third (1:04.88).
The girls’ Floyd Central Sectional took place last night (Tuesday) while the boys’ Corydon Central Sectional will take place tomorrow.
