Ralph K. Smith, 83, Lanesville, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at Mercy Providence Retirement Home in New Albany.
Born Jan. 18, 1929, in Depauw, he was the son of the late August (Gus) and Cora Whitman Smith.
He was an employee at General Electric in Louisville for 34 years, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville and the Knights of Columbus and an Army veteran during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Laverne Loew; a son, Stephen Smith of Lanesville; two daughters, Bridget Davis of Greenwood and Mary Jo Conder of Lanesville; a brother, August Smith of Depauw; three sisters, Mary Nolot and Ruth Linton, both of Corydon, and Jean Shrout of Ramsey; and six grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7, and Friday, April 20, after 8 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown.
Funeral Mass: Friday, April 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville with burial in the church cemetery.
Celebrant: Father Juan Valdes.
The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, to Mercy Providence Retirement Home or to Parkinson Support Center of Kentuckiana.
