Leonard E. Fessel
Leonard E. Fessel, 93, New Salisbury, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at his home.
Born Jan. 28, 1919, near New Salisbury, he was the son of the late William E. and Lillie B. Swartz Fessel.
He was a retired supervisor-manager from E.I. Du Pont De Numours & Co. in Louisville, a former Scout Master of Holy Name Troop 66 in Louisville and attended St. Bernard Catholic Church in Frenchtown and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Bradford.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Robert Fessel, and a sister, Barbara A. Spalding.
Survivors include his wife, the former Myrtle Ruth Gutknecht; nine children, Jerry L. Fessel and Cathy Pearl, both of Corydon, Max W. Fessel Sr., Rena Lois Stickler and Mark A. Fessel, all of Depauw, Calvin Russ Fessel of Noblesville, Judith Ann Matthews of Prospect, Ky., and Thomas L. Fessel and Samuel L. Fessel, both of New Salisbury; two brothers, David K. Fessel of Depauw and Edward Fessel of Paoli; a sister, Dorothy L. Smith of New Salisbury; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 29, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey and Thursday, March 1, after 9 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Bradford.
Funeral: Thursday, March 1, at 10 a.m. at the church with burial in the church cemetery.
