Former local stars taking game to college hardwood
The following is a compiled list of Harrison County graduates playing collegiate basketball and highlights from their seasons thus far.
Brittany Schoen (South Central Junior-Senior High School) serves as a team captain in her senior season with Indiana State University. In her last game against Southern Illinois, Schoen scored 14 points and had three rebounds in 36 minutes of action. The guard has started all 14 games and is second in scoring average at 10.8 points per game. She has 21 steals and averages 2.7 rebounds per game. She is also less than 90 points from reaching the 1,000-point career club.
Meghan Bussabarger (Corydon Central High School) recorded a double-double for Austin Peay State University on Dec. 20 against Alabama A&M when she had 21 points and 11 rebounds. She picked up another on Dec. 31 with 15 points and 11 boards against Morehead State. The 5-11 junior has started 13 of 16 games and averages 7.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. At the free-throw line, Bussabarger is shooting 74 percent.
Shelby Miller (South Central Junior-Senior High School) has started all 10 games for Maryville University in St. Louis. The freshman guard averages 9.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. She’s also dished 21 assists and has 18 steals. Miller is shooting at a 90-percent clip at the free-throw line and 35 percent from 3-point land. On Dec. 28 at Saint Leo, Miller led the team with 18 points and also had four rebounds and three steals.
Katie Dennison (South Central Junior-Senior High School) has played in four games for Spalding University in Louisville. The freshman averages two points and 1.2 rebounds per game. She scored a career best six points against George Fox on Dec. 19 in the Hoop n Surf Tournament in Honolulu.
Bryant Conder (Lanesville Junior-Senior High School) is in his sophomore season with the Franklin Grizzlies and has appeared in two games.
Garett Ross (Corydon Central High School), a red-shirt freshman has appeared in seven of 10 games for the NCAA Division II No. 5 Bellarmine Knights. He had an assist and three points against Malone on Nov. 26.
Brandon Dunaway (Corydon Central High School) has started 13 of 16 games for Indiana University Southeast, leading the team in minutes played. He averages 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game and is shooting 36 percent from beyond the arc. The freshman had 16 points and five rebounds in the season opener at Georgetown College.
