Donald L. Cole, 77, New Salisbury, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at Harrison Health & Rehabilitation Center in Corydon.
Born Jan. 6, 1934, in Sapulpa, Okla., he was the son of the late Henry R. and Gertrude Cole.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Tulsa in 1963 and a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Louisville in 1968, and worked as a design engineer at General Electric Co. in Louisville from 1963 to 1966. He was a professor and administrator who served as the assistant dean of Academic Services at Speed Scientific School, University of Louisville from 1981 to 2002, when he retired after 37 years of service. After becoming a registered professional engineer in Indiana and Kentucky in 1970, he worked as a forensic accident reconstruction and mechanical engineering design review consultant from 1974 to 2002. He was a member of the Church of Reconciliation in Palmyra.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sue C. Cole; a daughter, Jessica Cole of Floyds Knobs; a son, Jason Cole of Lexington, Ky.; a brother, Henry R. Cole of Metairie, La.; and two grandchildren.
Private burial: Friday, Nov. 4, at Central Barren Cemetery.
Officiants: His son and daughter, Jason and Jessica Cole.
