George D. Mayberry Sr.
George Devert Mayberry Sr., 84, Elizabeth, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at his home.
Born Jan. 24, 1927, in Myrtle, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward and Hazel Blair Mayberry.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, a former coal miner in West Virginia, a former tavern owner in Chicago and a farmer.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Mayberry.
Survivors include his wife, the former Maria Stella Sorrentino; two sons, George Devert Mayberry Jr. and Donald E. Mayberry, both of Elizabeth; three daughters, Catherine Spence of Elizabeth, Karen Dismore of Smithland, Ky., and Sandina Mayberry of Oakland, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday, Oct. 20, from 1 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 21, after 9 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Friday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial will be in the Mayberry Family Cemetery near Elizabeth.
