In the final meet before the post-season begins, North Harrison’s boys’ and girls’ cross country programs easily swept the Harrison County Meet Thursday in Ramsey.
The Cougars boys posted a perfect score of 15, placing runners in each of the top six finishing positions. Johnnie Guy was the overall winner, running the course in 15:43.44. He was aiming to best the course record of 15:35 set by Tyler Byrne in 2009 but fell just short in his final home meet.
Claiming the remaining top spots for the Cougars were Jonathan Reynolds (16:11) in second place, Josh Guy (16:35) in third place, Jason Head (16:49) in fourth place, Kyle Chesser (17:05) in fifth place and Daniel Fleace (17:29) in sixth place.
Corydon Central’s Levi Taylor broke up the string of Cougars runners with a seventh-place effort with a time of 17:32.
Lanesville, which finished second with 63 points, rounded out the top 10 with Isaac Blackman (17:39), Brandon Price (17:45) and Travis Kaake (17:56).
Corydon Central finished third with 74 points, followed by South Central with 108. The Rebels’ top finisher was Nick Soots (18:49) in 16th place.
On the girls’ side, it was a hotly contested race at the top between North Harrison’s Ashton Bosler and South Central’s Rachel Pease. They traded the lead through much of the early stages of the race until Bosler pulled away in the final mile. She went on to win in a personal best time of 19:42.91.
Pease finished second in 20:15.
North Harrison won the team title with 26 points. Lady Cat Natalie Hollensead finished third in 21:24. Rounding out the North Harrison runners were Shelby Lindsey (fifth, 23:21), Savannah Taylor (eighth, 23:56), Abbey Stone (ninth, 24:15), Sydney Taylor (12th, 24:59) and Hayley Elliot (13th, 25:08).
Corydon Central’s Brianna Norris finished fourth with a time of 22:46.
North Harrison was followed by Lanesville (48 points) and Corydon Central (70 points) in the team standings. Pease was South Central’s lone female competitor.
Lanesville’s top finishers included Bailey Kaake (sixth, 23:47), Erica Kennedy (seventh, 23:49) and Caryn Eisert (10th, 24:32).
The Crawford County Regional will be held Saturday in Marengo.
