The Lanesville boys’ tennis team reached the New Albany sectional final but lost Thursday to the host Bulldogs, 5-0.
Caleb Caldwell and Nick Schoen pulled off a first-set win in No. 1 doubles for the Eagles. The duo won the opener, 6-3, against Kyle Landrum and Mirani Shauib. In the final two sets, Caldwell and Schoen lost, 6-1, 6-1.
Lanesville struggled against the Bulldogs on the remaining courts.
James Stewart defeated Austin Dauphinee 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles while Kristopher Thomas ousted Ryan Fulkerson in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Singles play was rounded out by Luke Landrum defeating Clayton Engel 6-0, 6-1.
New Albany’s Arvind Dhanapal and Cameron Mullins rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Matthew Husband and Jon Ferree in No. 2 doubles.
South Central’s season came to an end last Wednesday when the Rebels lost to the Bulldogs 5-0.
Stewart blanked Hunter Stark in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 2 singles, South Central’s Matt Fox battled with Thomas until falling 6-2, 6-2. South Central’s Logan Carter was ousted by Garmon 6-1, 6-0.
With Mark O’Connor missing in No. 1 doubles to an injury, the Rebels team of Henry Dunn and Jake LaClair came up short in their match against Landrum and Mirani 6-1, 6-2.
In No. 2 doubles, Dhanapal and Mullins defeated Alex Wiseman and Colton Foreman 6-3, 6-1.
In the other semi-final at New Albany, Lanesville defeated Corydon Central, 4-1.
At the Floyd Central sectional, the Cougars were no match for the Highlanders in Thursday’s semi-final. Floyd Central, which went on to win the sectional, defeated North Harrison 5-0.
Floyd Central’s Justin Batliner defeated Andrew Dones, 6-1, 6-0 to take No. 1 singles. No. 2 singles went to Ryan Plunkett 7-5, 6-2 over Jacob Outcalt, while Alex Martin won 6-0, 6-0 over Gage Arnold.
On the doubles court, Drew Hussung and Jarrett Oldham ended Brandon Hawkins and Brad Nowak’s season with a 6-0, 6-1 No. 1 doubles win. No. 2 doubles was won by Trevor Schultze and Jack Stoner 6-2, 6-2 over Chris Nordoff and Tyler Cockerham.
