Mathes picks up 3rd Old Cap Championship

Jon Mathes won his third Old Capital Club Championship Sunday when he carded a 1-under par 71 for his final round.
Among the championship flight, Mathes had to rally from a five-shot deficit before teeing off Sunday. Saturday’s round for Mathes saw the former champ card a 75. Brett Stilwell put up a 2-under par 70 to open play Saturday. Stilwell fell back on day two, carding an 81, but hung on for second place, five shots back.
Mathes won his last title in 2006, while his first was in 2004.
Michael Wiseman won the first flight with a 157 while Bob Glordan easily ran away with the senior flight title. Glordan had a 3-under par two-day score of 141.
The ladies’ championship was won by Linda Davis. She backed up a round of 85 on Saturday with an 82 on Sunday. Davis outlasted second-place finisher Karen Breeden (182). Rita Stocksdale (182) finished third.
