James E. Simler
James E. Simler, 79, Corydon, died Sunday, Oct. 14, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
A native of Lanesville, born Sept. 12, 1922, he was the son of Charles and Eldora Evans Simler.
He was a retired employee of Peerless Manufacturing in Louisville, a janitor for the Lanesville Community School Corp. from 1980 to 1985, an Army veteran of World War II and a former president and treasurer for Local 214 Moulders Union.
Survivors include three sons, John Simler of Sellersburg, Charles Simler of Corydon and William Simler of Lanesville; three daughters, Charlotte Lopp of Yukon, Okla., Jeanette Nolan of Leesburg, Fla., and Evelyn McPherson of Corydon; a sister, Wilma Miller of Indianapolis; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon with burial in Lanesville Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Wilfong officiated.
Pallbearers were Jason, Robby, Michael, Billy and Dillon Simler, Gary and Brian Atkins, and Justin, Eric and Calvin Jr. McPherson.
