Crash claims Laconia man
A Laconia man died last week as a result of injuries sustained in a crash in Hardinsburg, Ky.
According to Bruce Anthony of the Breckenridge County Sheriff’s Department, Travis Rhodes, 43, Ekron, Ky., was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Sierra west on U.S. 60 at about 4:50 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26. In the passenger seat was Jeffrey C. Boone, 33, of Laconia. A 2003 Chevrolet pickup being driven east on U.S. 60 by Ryan Padgett, 27, of Cecilia, Ky., crossed the center line and went into the westbound lane.
‘There was dense fog in the area at the time and there was nothing at the scene to indicate why (Padgett) drove left of center,’ Anthony said.
Rhodes attempted to avoid the crash; however, the two vehicles collided head-on in the emergency lane.
All three men were transported to Breckenridge County Memorial Hospital, where Boone was pronounced dead. Rhodes sustained non-life threatening injuries, and Padgett was transferred to University Hospital in Louisville via Air Methods air ambulance.
Toxicology results are still pending, and the crash remains under investigation.
