IU’s Pease claims 3rd All-American honor at IU
Indiana University’s Sarah Pease became the school’s most accomplished female steeplechaser by earning her third All-American honor at the NCAA Track and Field National Championships on June 11.
Pease, a graduate of South Central Junior-Senior High School, placed ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in Des Moines, Iowa, at Drake University. The Hoosier senior completed the race in 10:11.94.
Portions of the steeplechase final were televised live on CBS Television’s coverage of the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Des Moines. As a team, the Hoosiers had 12 athletes earn All-American honors.
To reach the final, Pease advanced through the preliminaries with a season’s best time of 10:05.89 for her third consecutive appearance in the national final.
At the NCAA East Preliminary, Pease clocked a time of 10:09.14 in an eighth-place effort.
For the first time in her career, Pease placed first at the Big Ten Championships in May. Her time of 10:15.05 set a facility record at the University of Iowa’s Cretzmeyer Track. Pease also ran in the 5,000 at the Big Ten Championship, placing 10th with a time of 16:41.33. As a team, the Hoosiers women placed third at the conference meet.
Also during the regular season, Pease placed third in the steeple at the prestigious Penn Relays.
Next up for Pease is the USA Track and Field Championships this weekend in Eugene, Ore.
