Hinton bows out at regional with 81

Corydon Central freshman Joseph Hinton’s season came to an end Thursday at the Providence Regional at Champions Pointe Golf Course in Henryville after he shot a 9-over-par round of 81.
Hinton’s only birdie of the day came on the par-5 No. 6, which put him at just 2-over par. He went on to finish the front nine with a solid 39 before a double bogey on 14 and a triple bogey on the difficult finishing hole led to a back-nine score of 42.
Hinton advanced to the regional after shooting an 80 on June 6 at the Providence Sectional at Covered Bridge Golf Club in Sellersburg.
Floyd Central and Providence advanced to state with second- and third-place finishes totaling 310 and 317, respectively, well behind champion Columbus North, which carded a 297.
Also from the Providence Sectional, New Albany’s Cory Embry advanced to state as an individual with a 75.
The state tournament began yesterday at The Legends Golf Course in Franklin and will continue today.
