Teen dies from crash injuries

A teenager who was injured in a traffic crash on Wednesday morning, May 25, died Monday, June 6, 2011.
Dalton Denton, 19, of New Salisbury died at University Hospital in Louisville as a result of severe head injuries sustained in the crash.
According to Capt. Eric Fischer of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Denton was riding in the back seat, on the driver’s side, in a 1999 Chrysler 30M driven by Maranda R. Mullins.
Fischer said Mullins, 18, of Corydon, fell asleep while driving west on S.R. 64. Another passenger in the back seat, Austin Denton, Dalton’s younger brother, attempted to awake Mullins by yelling her name but was unsuccessful, according to the police report.
The crash occurred near Mayden Trail at about 4:43 a.m. The vehicle continued west off the north side of the road into a drainage ditch. As the vehicle continued, the driver awoke just before the vehicle impacted a large tree, Fischer reported.
Also injured in the crash was another passenger, Shawna Stevens, 18, of Ramsey, who was riding in the front seat.
Mullins was trapped in the vehicle and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Austin Denton complained of pain, as did Stevens, who also was trapped in the car.
All passengers and the driver were wearing seat belts, according to police.
