Mary Alice Hess, 77, Corydon, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011.
Born March 24, 1934, in Corydon, she was the daughter of the late William Roscoe and Jessie Wheat Stevens.
She graduated in 1952 from Corydon High School, where she was a band member, was employed for 38 years as a claims representative at the Social Security Administration in New Albany and, after retiring, worked 11 years, part time, in the Harrison County Treasurer’s Office. She was a lifetime member of Corydon Presbyterian Church, where she was an ordained deacon and elder, and a lifetime member and past president of the Harrison County American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 123. After this unit was no longer active, she transferred to Bonnie Sloan Unit No. 28 in New Albany.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Arvil Lewis Hess, on Jan. 11, 1989.
Survivors include a son, Stevens L. Hess; a sister, Jean E. Fawver; and three grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, June 3, after 9 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Friday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
Officiants: The Revs. Scott Hill and Ron Russell.
Pallbearers: Ridge and Alan Hess, Charles (Sonny) and Dale Fawver Sr., Kenneth Neukam, Kenneth Gilham, Jared Ashton and James Wooten.
Honorary pallbearers: Jessica and McKenzie Hess, Greg and Dale Fawver Jr., Todd and Jeff Fawver, Roger Dannenfelser, Bill Shireman, Doug Sherman, Brad Lillpop and Donald Kruer.
The family suggests memorial gifts to her church or the American Cancer Society.
