Charles E. Walter Sr., 88, Corydon, died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
Born Jan. 15, 1923, in Corydon, he was the son of the late Frank and Merle Stonecipher Walter.
He was a retired federal employee, a member of Old Capitol United Methodist Church in Corydon, a life member of Disabled American Veterans and VFW Post 2950 in Corydon, a past commander and member of American Legion Post 332 in Milltown, a member of Masonic Lodge 661 in Milltown, a past member of the board of directors of the St. Louis Federal Center Credit Union and was a decorated Army veteran of World War II.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Olive J. Johnson; a brother, Harold Walter; and two sisters, Thelma Turner and Leola Grable.
Survivors include a son, Charles E. Walter Jr. of O’Fallon, Mo.; a daughter, Terri L. Walter of Las Vegas; two brothers, Carl Walter of Corydon and Robert Walter of Meadville, Pa.; a sister, Anna Lee Crosier of Corydon; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, April 25, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon and Tuesday, April 26, after 9 a.m. at his church.
Funeral: Tuesday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at his church with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
Officiant: The Rev. Douglas Finney.
Pallbearers: Tim, Michael and John Walter and Frank Crosier.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Old Capitol United Methodist Church Building Fund.
