Violet Jacobs Lasley, 96, New Albany, formerly of Mauckport, Corydon and Holland, died early Thursday morning, March 31, 2011, at her home.
Born April 24, 1914, in Harrison County, she was the daughter of the late William and Sallie Lopp Jacobs.
She was employed in food services for the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corp., working at New Albany High School and three elementary schools, was employed as a receptionist for a dentist and later in sales at the White House department store, from where she retired, and was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in New Albany, where she taught classes to both children and young adults.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Carl Lasley; an infant daughter, Beverly Joan Lasley; four sisters, Ruth Hisey, Jacie Foster, Mildred Bliss and Naomi Kirk; and four brothers, Paul, Oswald, Don and Lamar Jacobs.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Solomon; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, April 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, April 5, from noon to 8 p.m. at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Home in New Albany.
Funeral: Wednesday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in SCI-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Main Street United Methodist Church, the National Alopecia Areata Foundation or Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
