For the third consecutive year, Corydon Central’s Matthew LaHue has advanced from the Jeffersonville wrestling sectional.
At Saturday’s sectional, wrestling at 112 pounds, LaHue came away with a third-place finish, allowing the junior to move on to regional competition.
LaHue scored a victory in his first-round match over Charlestown’s Antonio Gomez at the 1:43 mark.
Waiting in the semi-final round was Floyd Central’s Chris Whitely. Whitely held a slim advantage late in the third period, forcing LaHue to make a move. LaHue’s efforts allowed Whitely an opportunity to score a win by pin with 12 seconds remaining.
In the consolation bracket, LaHue had little trouble with Christian Academy of Indiana’s Minho Lee. The winner advanced not only to the third-place match, but also to a guaranteed spot at regional. LaHue was up to the challenge, pinning Lee in 2:02.
Squaring off against New Albany’s Bryce Peavler in the third-place match, LaHue carried plenty of momentum toward his regional bid. LaHue led from the outset, scoring early on a take-down. Late in the third period, he scored a near fall, eventually winning the match, 8-0.

Carver scored a win in the consolation bracket, pinning Charlestown’s Zach Foster in 2:48. Carver, however, lost in his opportunity to compete in the third-place match when he was pinned by Floyd Central’s Andrew Sharp.
