William D. Howell

William D. (Bill) Howell, 80, New Albany, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011.
Born March 7, 1930, in Edwardsville, he was the son of the late Newland (Babe) and Blanche Detrick Howell.
He worked for T.J. Atkins Crushed Stone for 29 years and Liter’s Quarry, both in Jeffersonville, and was a member of Hope Lodge No. 1, the IOOF of New Albany and the Manzanita Tribe Redman’s Club in New Albany.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Hilma Jane Quick; a son, Melvin L. Howell Sr.; a brother, Lloyd (PI) Howell; and a great-grandchild, Tyrone.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane Ann Driscoll of Louisville; two sons, Dale W. Howell of Louisville and Edward L. Howell of Corydon; two sisters, Betty L. Horsley Chadwell of Louisville and Mary Meyer of Largo, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, Jan. 28, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home in New Albany.
Funeral: Saturday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Edwardsville Cemetery.
