Milley C. Beckort

Milley Catherine Chapman Beckort, 86, Rockport, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Rockport.
Born July 28, 1924, in Penn Township in Parke County, she was the daughter of the late Leland and Achsa Carter Chapman.
She was a graduate of Earlham College and Purdue University, taught English at Himeji (Japan) Girls School from 1948 until 1951, and worked at the Indiana Cooperative Extension Service as the Perry County Home Demonstration Agent from 1955 to 1959. She was the business manager and homemaker of the family farm, volunteered for the Rain Tree Girl Scout Council and taught release time education in Rockport for many years. She also taught adult women’s Sunday school at Larkin Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Theoren Chapman.
Survivors include her husband, William A. (Bill) Beckort of Rockport; three children, Martha Beckort of Corydon, Eleisa Atkinson of Eben, Mich., and Richard Beckort of Seymour; a sister, Madeline Craycraft of Bloomingdale; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, Jan. 19, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 20, after 9 a.m. at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport.
Funeral: Thursday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Patronville.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Bloomingdale Friends Meeting, Larkin Baptist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
