Corydon takes second at MSC
Brownstown Central’s five participating golfers at the Mid-Southern Conference meet Saturday scored 80 and under to claim the conference title.
Held at Wooded View Golf Course in Clarksville, the Braves scored a 306 over 18 holes on the par-71 course. Brownstown Central was led by Luke Warren’s 73. Also carding scores for the Braves were Jake Olson (74), Zach Pranger (79), Blake Otte (80) and Kris Curry (80).
Scottsburg finished second with a 321, led by medalist Andy Gladden who fired a 3-under par 68.
Corydon Central finished third overall with a 331. The Panthers were led by Michael Merk, who scored a 79. Merk began his day on the back nine, where he carded a 37. On the front side, Merk had a 42 to post the 79. The score was good for fifth place among individuals.
Josh Faulkenburg also had a strong showing for the Panthers. He played an even round, finishing with an 81, good for 10th place.
Also scoring rounds for Corydon Central were Conor Whooley (85), Ryan Coffman (86) and Jesse Ashton (104).
North Harrison placed sixth, coming in with a 358 team score. Teammates Daniel Matthews and Alec Dones shot 84s to lead the Cougars. Both posted a 41 on the front nine and a 43 on the back.
Also scoring for the Cougars were Chris Bohnert (91), Matt Johnson (99) and Brent LaDuke (110).
Merk and Faulkenburg earned All-MSC honors for their play.
Also on the All-MSC team were George Hoskins (Eastern), Logan Lilly (Salem), Gladden, Warren, Olson, Pranger, Otte and Curry.
Earning All-MSC honorable mention were Tyler Alexander (Scottsburg), Andy Densford (Scottsburg), Stevie Motsinger (Salem), Jake Atkins (Charlestown), Adam Johnson (Austin), Matthews and Dones.
There will be a four-way meet featuring Harrison County schools Corydon Central, North Harrison, Lanesville and South Central tomorrow (Thursday) at 4 p.m. at Old Capital Golf Club east of Corydon.
