The North Harrison track and field teams continue to roll through the regular season, posting a stellar performance May 4 at the Harrison County Meet in Ramsey.
The Cougar boys’ team lived up to its billing, scoring 130 points and cruising to the title. South Central finished second with 46 points, edging out Corydon Central (42) and Lanesville (21).
Relay and distance events were dominated by the Cougars. North Harrison rolled in the 400-meter relay (45.4 seconds), 1,600 relay (3:37.9) and 3,200 relay (8:26).
Jonathan Reynolds scored two wins during the evening. He rolled in the 1,600, crossing the line in 4:45, and was closely tailed by teammates Ryan Foster and Johnnie Guy, who finished second and third, respectively. Coming back for the 3,200, Reynolds won again, coming in at 10:07. Josh Guy placed second, and Corydon Central’s Cheyenne Smith took third. Foster notched a victory in the 800, coming in at 2:05. South Central’s Chris O’Connor was second.
Hurdle events belonged to North Harrison’s Jarod Richards. He cruised in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.66 seconds, nearly two seconds faster than teammate Nathan Klapheke. Richards also won the 300 hurdles, edging out South Central’s Tyler Hutchinson with a time of 43.03 seconds. Hutchinson completed the event in 43.6 seconds.
Corydon Central came away with three top finishes in the sprint events. Garett Ross won the 100-meter dash in 11.7 seconds and the 200 in 23.5 seconds. North Harrison’s Jacob Cundiff was second in the 100, and teammate Cody Morgan placed second in the 200.
Fellow Panther Felix Miasch won the 400 in a time of 51.5 seconds, holding off North Harrison’s Marcus Robb.
North Harrison added three additional top finishers in field events. Ryan Smith took the discus with a throw of 113-3 with South Central’s Logan Carter finishing second. Robb placed first in the long jump, with his best distance, 18-5. Lanesville’s Alec Turner took second, four inches back of the winner. In the pole vault, Ben Avery represented North Harrison with a vault of 10 feet.
South Central’s Carter bounced back to win the shot put (39-4-1/2), out dueling second-place finisher Brandon Mullens from Lanesville. O’Connor scored another win for South Central, taking the high jump (6 feet).
The North Harrison girls had to fend off rival Corydon Central to take the team title with 95 points. The Lady Panthers concluded with 71 points, followed by South Central (44) and Lanesville (28).
Sprinter Emily Giles scored three individual wins. She won the 100 with a time of 13.3 seconds, the 200 with a time of 27.8 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 15 feet. North Harrison’s Kennedi Winn was second in the 100, while South Central’s Lisa Bond was second in the 200 and Corydon Central’s Olivia Wiseman took second in the long jump.
South Central’s Rachel Pease also notched three wins: the 800 (2:29), the 1,600 (5:55) and the 3,200 (13:38). Wiseman was second in the 800, while Lanesville’s Rachel Butler was second in the mile and two-mile events.
North Harrison’s Mallory Allgeier won both hurdle events. She won the 100 with a time of 17.31 seconds, ahead of second-place finisher Cassie Epperson from Corydon Central. Allgeier also won the 300 (51.8 seconds), ahead of her teammate, runner-up Megan Naegele.
The Lady Panthers won two relay events, the 1,600 (4:36) and the 3,200 (11:57). North Harrison took the 400 relay with a time of 55.3 seconds.
Corydon Central’s Brittany Wright took the 400 in 1:04, beating out Bond.
In field events, South Central thrower Abby Day won the shot put and discus. Her best throw in the shot was 34-2 and in the discus she recorded 111-1. North Harrison’s Amanda Hartley was second in both events.
Corydon Central’s Molly Pitts won the pole vault, clearing 7 feet. North Harrison’s Kasey Kelley placed first in the high jump, clearing 4-6. South Central’s Katie Dennison was second.
