The South Central girls’ tennis team opened the Southern Athletic Conference season last Wednesday with a 3-2 victory at Lanesville.
The Lady Rebels scored victories in two singles matches and in No. 1 doubles. Katie Dennison and Emily Parker teamed to win the key doubles match. The duo won the first set against Lanesville’s Rachel Riley and Jenna Walter 6-4. In the second set, Dennison and Parker had to go to a tie-breaker but came out with a 7-6 win.
South Central also scored a win when Jessica Schreck landed a 6-1, 6-4 victory over LeAnne Myers in No. 2 singles.
Another win also came on the singles court via Autumn Crosier. The Lady Rebel defeated Lanesville’s Tara Chipman, 6-4, 6-3.
‘The girls played well in our first conference match,’ South Central coach Casey Hogan said. ‘Jessica Schreck’s ground strokes were crisp and clean the entire match. Autumn Crosier was consistent and finished well when she went to the net. Katie Dennison and Emily Parker were amazing; their play won the match for us.’
Among Lanesville’s wins, Marta Roda Moreno scored a straight set win over Morgan Boston, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 singles.
Also for the Lady Eagles, Alana Umensetter and Katie Cooke defeated South Central’s Sydney Seelye and Darcey Thomas, 6-1, 6-4.
Both teams will participate in the Crawford County Invitational Saturday at 9 a.m.
