Jeff invades, sweeps NH Invite


The added competition was welcomed at the packed North Harrison Invitational last Friday. Jeffersonville joined as a last-second entrant and upped the event that featured 15 teams for the co-ed meet.
Jeffersonville won the boys’ and girls’ team titles. On the boys’ side, Jeffersonville tallied 90 points, while host North Harrison was eight back with 82. Corydon Central placed seventh with 30 points, South Central was 10th with 11, and Lanesville was 14th with one point.
‘Jeffersonville is a tough school and forced our guys to up the competition,’ North Harrison boys’ track coach Joe Kellum said. ‘We’re turning to May, which is when you want this competition going into conference and sectional.’
Jeffersonville’s girls’ team scored 106 points. Taking second was Brownstown Central with 94. North Harrison took fourth place with 46 points, while South Central was seventh (30 points), Corydon Central eighth (26) and Lanesville 13th (3).
Mallory Allgeier showed a big effort for the Lady Cat team on the track, sweeping the hurdle events. She scored first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.84 seconds and another top finish in the 300 hurdles, running in 50.57. Teammate Megan Naegele was third in the 300 hurdles (51.31).
North Harrison thrower Amanda Hartley finished third in the discus with her best throw being a 100-foot, 5-inch effort. She also scored sixth in the shot put (31-5).
Lady Cat sprinter Emily Giles placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.21 and sixth in the 100 with a time of 13.25.
South Central was paced by the efforts of Rachel Pease and Abby Day, with each earning first-place finishes. Pease notched first place in the 800, running in 2:32.61. She also took second in the 1,600 (5:32.03) and the 3,200 (12:37).
Day took home first in the shot put, setting the mark with a distance of 34-10.5. She also took fifth in the discus throw (97-3).
The Corydon Central girls’ were led by Brittany Wright, who placed in two events. She was fifth in the 400 (1:05.66) and sixth in the pole vault (7 feet). Olivia Wiseman also scored points for the Lady Panthers, taking fourth in the long jump (14-8.5). Danielle Garrad took sixth in the 300 hurdles (53-35) for Corydon Central.
Lanesville scored points in the discus with Sara Hausz’s throw of 99-4, which earned her fourth place.
North Harrison was impressive in the boys’ competition. They won the 3,200 and 1,600 relays with times of 8:40.25 and 3:33, respectively. Fellow Harrison County schools Corydon Central and South Central ran second and third in the 1,600 relay.
Distance runner Tyler Byrne scored two individual wins for North Harrison, taking the 800 (2:00) and the 1,600 (4:26). Teammate Ryan Foster finished second in the 800 (2:04), and Jonathan Reynolds was second in the 1,600 (4:30). Reynolds came back to win the 3,200 race in 10:09 with fellow Cougar Josh Guy finishing fourth (10:25).
North Harrison’s Jarod Richards scored three solid finishes. He took fourth in the 110 hurdles (15:56) and the 300 hurdles (42.45). Richards’ best effort was in the high jump, clearing 6 feet for third.
Also scoring for the Cougars was Marcus Robb, who took fourth in the long jump with an 18-9.25.
For Corydon Central, Felix Miasch took third place in the 400 with a time of 52.92 seconds. Luke Burch was a fifth-place finisher in the 800 (2:10.35), and Levi Taylor was fifth in the 3,200 (10:41). Panther sprinter Garett Ross finished sixth in the 100 (11.66), and distance runner Cheyenne Smith took fifth in the 1,600 (4:42).
South Central’s Chris O’Connor placed second in the high jump, clearing 6 feet. Tyler Hutchinson placed sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.72.
