The swimming season wrapped up for the boys this past week with the New Albany Sectional. The preliminaries took place Thursday followed by the finals Saturday.
Corydon Central’s Sean Ettinger qualified for the B Final of the 50-yard freestyle after swimming the event in 24.07 seconds. In the final, the senior placed 12th overall with a time of 23.99 seconds.
Ettinger also competed in the 100 backstroke, finishing 16th with a time of 1:05.07.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Corydon Central finished ninth with a time of 1:44.18, trimming their prelim time by two seconds.
North Harrison took an eighth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of William Davis, Scotty Haycraft, Brandon Knight and Haoyu Juan completed the race in 3:51.71.
Davis, a junior, just missed qualifying for the finals in the 200 individual medley. He finished 13th (top 12 qualified) with a time of 2:19.94 in the prelims. Davis also took a 16th-place finish in the 500 freestyle.
Juan had a good showing for the Cougars in the 100 freestyle, placing 16th with a time of 55.41 seconds.
North Harrison finished with 14 points, and Corydon Central had 11. Floyd Central was the top overall boys’ team with 283 points.
Lanesville was shut out in scoring but did get an 18th-place finish (1:13.15) from Vince Cecil in the 100 breaststroke.
The girls’ New Albany Sectional took place Feb. 4 (prelims) and Feb. 6.
Corydon Central was able to score seven points, while North Harrison and Lanes-ville were shut out. Floyd Central went on to win the team title with 276 points.
In the 200 medley relay, Corydon Central placed 11th with a time of 2:19.93. Also as a team, the Lady Panthers placed 12th in the 200 freestyle relay (2:02.49) and the 400 freestyle relay (5:09.18).
North Harrison got a solid finish from Olivia Davis in the 100 breaststroke, one spot from the cut with a 13th-place finish in 1:21.21.
