Closings and cancellations

The recent snow storm canceled school Tuesday, Feb. 9, and has had some school officials already calling off classes for tomorrow.
Sam Gardner, interim superintendent at Lanesville Community School Corp., said today at 4:30 p.m. that classes there are canceled for Wednesday.
Also, the Franklin Township Farm Bureau meeting scheduled for tonight (Tuesday) has been postponed to Monday. The meeting, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Lanesville Junior-Senior High School cafeteria, will include an update from Sam Gardner, interim superintendent of Lanesville Community School Corp., and Lanesville principals Marsha Himmelhaver and Janet Page.
Dr. Ken Oppel, transportation director for North Harrison Community School Corp., was making his way home at 4:45 p.m. today after checking the roads. He said school there is also canceled for tomorrow.
The start of the girls’ basketball sectionals has been moved back a day at both Silver Creek (Class 3A) and New Washington (Class A). As of now, today’s games have been moved to tomorrow (Wednesday); Wednesday’s games moved to Friday; Friday’s games moved to Saturday; and finals to be played on Monday.
Classes for tomorrow at Crawford County Community School Corp. have been canceled, per Dr. Mark Eastridge, the school corporation’s superintendent.
Milltown Chief of Police Ray Saylor said the police department’s emergency operation center was activated Monday at 6 p.m. and will continue to be operational until 6 tomorrow evening to monitor the snow situation. The police department has four-wheel drive capability to respond to emergencies in the area. Saylor said they are also periodically checking on elderly residents in Milltown to make sure their needs are being met. Those with an emergency should call 911; however, he said, non-emergency calls can be made to 633-2045.
