Roma J. Abel

Roma Jean Abel, 79, New Albany, formerly of New Salisbury, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Green Valley Care Center in New Albany.
Born July 6, 1930, in Natchitoces Parish, La., she was the daughter of the late Angus and Mamie Ferguson Jennings.
She was a retired nursing assistant with Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Elisha William Abel Sr., in 1984; a son, Elisha Malcolm Abel II; three brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include three daughters, Maria Abel-Crecelius of Hardinsburg, Cynthia Leftwitch of New Salisbury and Yvette Ferree of Corydon; a son, Elisha William Abel Jr. of New Salisbury; a stepdaughter, Leilani Abel of Leavenworth; two brothers, Doyle Jennings and Von Jennings, both of Marksville, La.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey was in charge of cremation arrangements. A celebration of Roma’s life will be scheduled at a later date.
