Byrne qualifies for nationals meet in Portland, Ore.

Tyler Byrne confirmed himself as an elite runner with an awesome performance this past weekend at the Nike Midwest Regional Meet held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.
The varsity race had 277 of the best runners in it from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Missouri competing for a chance to advance to the Nike National Race in Portland, Ore., later this year. The top two teams and the top five individuals advance to Oregon for the Nike Nationals.
Byrne was the runner-up with a strong second-place overall finish with a time of 15:14, gaining ground on the No. 2 runner in the nation, Zach Wills, from Ohio all the way down the shoot to the finish line.
Both Byrne and Wills broke the course record at Terre Haute with hay bales being used throughout the challenging course.
Meanwhile, teammates on the Cougar Cross Country Club also ran a strong race, finishing in 16th place out of 30 teams with a score of 370 points and a pack time of 2:08. The team was the fourth-place Indiana team in the stiff competition.
Johnnie Guy repeated yet another excellent postseason race and finished in 70th place with a time of 16:33 and later was recognized on the podium as one of the Top 10 Freshman and Sophomore competitors in the race. Ryan Foster and Jonathan Reynolds both finished the race in strong fashion, placing 75th and 77th with times of 16:35 and 16:37, respectively. Josh Guy also had a great race, finishing in 146th place with a time of 17:22. Kyle Chesser finished in 178th place with a time of 18:58, and Wesley Wiseheart finished in 190th place with a time of 19:53.
