Pete D. Brown

Pete D. Brown, 85, Salem, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at 1:15 p.m. at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.
Born Sept. 11, 1924, in Pekin, he was the son of the late Pete and Edith Hall Brown.
He served in the Navy during World War II, served on the Salem City Council since 2000, was part owner of Jacobi Sales in Palmyra for 40 years before retiring in 1994 and was a member of the Salem Senior Citizens Center, the Salem American Legion Cecil Grimes Post 41, the Salem VFW Post 6636 and the Humane Society of Washington County.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, the former Doris P. Webb; two sons, Don and Douglas Brown, both of Salem; a daughter, Denise Newkirk of Salem; four brothers, Jesse, Merle, Oren and Elmo Brown, all of Salem; two sisters, Grace Weininger of Salem and Ruth McKinney of Muncie; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, Oct. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 6, after 9 a.m. at Dawalt Funeral Home in Salem.
Funeral: Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with interment, including full military honors, in Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem.
Officiants: Brothers Alex McIntosh and Robert Holler.
