Jerry W. Longacre
Jerry Wayne Longacre, 64, Corydon, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at his home after a brief fight against lung cancer.
Born Dec. 14, 1944, in New Albany, he was the son of Margie Longacre and the late Amzie Hershel Longacre.
He was a 1963 graduate of Corydon Central High School, was employed by Moorman Feed before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1968, serving two years at Camp Pendleton then four years in the Marine Reserves. He then sold farm equipment at New Idea, Deutz and OMC before starting a farming business making, selling and delivering hay in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. In 2002, he leased his farms and became owner-operator of Longacre Trucking.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen.
Survivors besides his mother include his companion, Melissa Mizaian; two sons, Jerry Jr. and Joshua Longacre; a daughter, Angela Longacre; a brother, Ronald Longacre; four sisters, Kay Ullrich, Sue Wenning Marilyn Smith and Jeannie Pflanz; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation: Wednesday, July 22, from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 23, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, July 24, after 8 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Friday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home followed by burial in Perseverance Chapel Cemetery south of Corydon.
Officiant: The Rev. Garry Polston.
Pallbearers: Rick Barger, John Conrad, Tony Andrews, Don Ullrich, Shey Wright and Jess Huggett.
