Corydon Central defeated Lanesville 3-2 Thursday to move on to the New Albany Girls’ Tennis Sectional final. In the title bout, Corydon Central was out-matched by the host team, dropping the finals, 5-0, to the Bulldogs.
Against Lanesville, Heather Uhl led the Lady Panther charge, scoring a decisive 6-0, 6-0 decision over Caroline Turcotte in No. 1 singles.
Also on the singles court, Olivia Reilly pulled out a win over LeAnne Myers, 6-2, 6-3.
Corydon Central dropped No. 3 singles when Felicia Adamic of Lanesville defeated Kayla Hoehn, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).
Lanesville scored its second win in No. 1 doubles when the tandem of Rachel Riley and Jenna Walter knocked off Megan Benton and Heidi Zimmerman, 6-3, 7-5. The Riley-Walter duo, with the win, advance to the individual doubles state tournament.
Rounding out the doubles court action, Taylor Kellem and Leah Wieckowski of Corydon Central defeated Katie Cooke and Alana Umensetter, 6-0, 6-4.
Corydon Central moved on to face New Albany, which rolled to a 5-0 win over South Central.
On the singles court, Kylia Sullivan defeated Morgan Boston, 6-0, 6-0; Kylie Crecelius defeated Katie Saylor, 6-1, 6-1; and Hayley Hawes defeated Jessica Schreck, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles action, New Albany swept South Central. Madeline Bellow and Sarah Nale scored a win over Katie Dennison and Emily Parker, 6-1, 6-0, and Ishita Jain and Emory Jones defeated Sydney Seelye and Kayla Metcalf, 6-2, 6-0.
In the championship round, New Albany won the sectional title, defeating Corydon Central, 5-0, Friday.
Uhl gave the Lady Panthers its best shot at sneaking a win but fell to Sullivan, 6-2, 6-3. Also in singles action, Crecelius defeated Reilly, 6-1, 6-1, and Hawes downed Hoehn, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, the duo of Dellow and Nale defeated Benton and Zimmerman, 6-0, 6-1, along with Jain and Jones defeating Kellum and Weickowksi, 6-1, 6-2.
At the Floyd Central Sectional, the host team also rolled through the competition, failing to drop a match.
In the semi-finals, the Lady Highlanders defeated North Harrison, 5-0.
No. 1 singles went to Carmen Schreiber, who defeated Wynn Shroyer, 6-3, 6-1. In No. 2 singles, Sandra McCaffrey defeated Caitlyn Janes, 6-2, 6-2. Rounding out the singles action, Shelby Garber defeated Raake, 6-1, 6-2.
On the doubles side, Chelsea Burch and Chelsey Shackelford defeated Kelsey Jacobi and Maggie Cassidy, 6-4, 6-3.
