Saulman takes 28th at state
Katie Saulman, a Corydon Central High School sophomore, represented the Panthers in girls’ swimming Friday at the IHSAA State Finals.
Saulman, making her second appearance at state, improved on her placing from her freshman season.
The state meet was held at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, with preliminaries on Friday and consolation and championships on Saturday.
Saulman swam in two events, the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 backstroke.
In the butterfly event, she swam the prelims in 59.64 seconds, good for 28th place. Last year, Saulman finished 31st in the butterfly, her lone qualifying event. Friday’s time wasn’t fast enough to return for the finals. McKenzie Bagan (Hamilton Southeastern) won the event with a time of 54.82 seconds.
Saulman equaled her placing in the backstroke event, swimming to a 28th-place finish in the prelims with a time of 1:00.49. Jessie Hammes, representing state champion Carmel, swam to victory in the finals with a time of 55.29 seconds.
