Darrel Newton, 77, Ramsey, formerly of New Albany, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
Born April 14, 1931, in Eckerty, he was the son of the late Scott and Sophia Jones Newton.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, worked 50 years in the construction business before retiring in 2006 and was a member of St. Augustine Church in Leopold.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a daughter, Frances; three brothers, Adrian, Lester and Herb; and a sister, Marie.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, the former Jeanne Etienne; two sons, Daniel Newton of New Albany and James Newton of Charlestown; three daughters, Marcia Benjamin of Columbus and Jackie McManus and Dee Fordyce, both of Sellersburg; a brother, Orin Newton of Eckerty; and 11 grandchildren.
Memorial Mass: Saturday, Feb. 21, at noon at St. Augustine Catholic Church with a private family burial.
Cremation was chosen.
Arrangements: Kraft Funeral Service in New Albany.
