Annabel Lee Applegate, 97, Depauw, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Green Valley Care Center in New Albany.
Born Sept. 16, 1911, in Depauw, she was the daughter of the late David Franklin and Lillie Mae Henriott Adams.
She was a retired public school teacher who taught in schools at Haiti, Hancock Chapel, Depauw and North Central, was a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of Indiana State Retired Teachers Association and Unity Chapel United Methodist Church, where she quilted.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Applegate; three sisters, Elizabeth Churchill, Mary Lillian and Henrietta Adams; and two brothers, James E. and Franklin Adams.
Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Smith of Depauw; a brother, Daniel F. Adams of Depauw; four grandsons; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, Jan. 12, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 13, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey.
Funeral: Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. at Unity Chapel United Methodist Church with interment in Mount Zion Cemetery in Depauw.
Officiant: The Rev. Jeff Reed.
Vocalist: Larry Johnson.
Organist: Mary Lynn Atherton.
Pallbearers: Alan, Clay, Tim, Scott, Cody and Collin Smith, John Deatrick and Nathan Faith.
