Mathes prevails in recount
Harrison County Councilman Carl (Buck) Mathes has now officially won a seat on the Harrison County Board of Commissioners.
Mathes, a Democrat, defeated Republican Councilwoman Rhonda Rhoads by 22 votes in a recount for the District 2 seat completed earlier today. Mathes collected 8,923 votes while Rhoads garnered 8,901.
Rhoads requested the recount after finishing 32 votes behind Mathes in the Nov. 4 General Election and subsequent counting of provisional ballots on Nov. 14.
Mathes will join fellow Democrats James Goldman and Terry Miller on the three-member board of commissioners that convenes for the first time in 2009 on Jan. 5.
