Light Up Corydon comes with a bang

Kick off this year’s holiday season on Saturday, Nov. 29, at the 23rd annual Light Up Corydon festival on the Corydon town square. This year’s event will also include special activities honoring Corydon’s 200th birthday.
The annual Light Up Corydon ornament will be available for purchase during the festival at the Blaine H. Wiseman Visitor Center and other downtown Corydon businesses. This year’s ornament commemorates Corydon’s 200th birthday. Supplies are limited. Cost for the ornament is $28 with proceeds going to Main Street Corydon to help with future funding of Light Up Corydon.
Festivities begin at noon on Nov. 29 with the merchant open house and free carriage rides around the square. Governor Hendricks’ Headquarters will host an open house from noon until 8 p.m.
Many other activities are scheduled throughout the day, including registration for a $500 Shopping Spree giveaway. You must be present during the drawing to win.
Santa is expected to ride in to town at about 6:45 p.m. on a horse-drawn carriage to light up the square. After the lighting of the square, children can visit with St. Nick and have their pictures made with him inside the First State Capitol.
Leading up to Santa’s arrival, the Zambelli family will put on a fireworks display in honor of Corydon’s 200th birthday.
