Roman A. Beecher

Roman A. Becher, 87, New Albany, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
Born June 15, 1921, in St. Meinrad, he was the son of the late Albert and Magdalin New Becher.
He was a staff sergeant in the Army and served in the Philippines during World War II, worked 42 years for LG&E and retired as a supervisor, was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville for 50 years, a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany the past two years, a member of Hobart Beach VFW Post 1693, the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, Morganair Senior Citizens and AARP Floyd County 3217 and a life member of the Knights of Columbus 1808.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Leona Mehling of New Albany; two sons, Daniel Becher of Sellersburg and Donald Becher of Park Hills, Ky.; two daughters, Sandra Felix of Connersville and Deana Sherrard of Evansville; two sisters, Anna Mae Kunkler of St. Meinrad and Mildred Bolte of Ferdinand; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, Nov. 17, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown with Rosary service at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass: Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Celebrants: Fathers Sonny Day and Harold Ripperger.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society or St. Meinrad Seminary.
