South Central’s Rachel Pease and Lanesville’s Joe Kissel took home top spots at the Corydon Central Cross Country Invitational Thursday at Hayswood Nature Reserve.
In the girls’ race, Pease ran away with the race from the start. The freshman completed the race in 21:15. Teammate Shelby Miller finished fourth overall, and Megan Sherrard was 25th.
Corydon Central’s top finisher was Kim Burks, who finished second overall. Rounding out Corydon Centrals top five were Olivia Wiseman (5th), Courtney Helton (12th) and Caitlyn Byrd (17th).
Lanesville was led by Rachel Butler, who placed sixth with a time of 23:46. Miranda Kaake finished ninth.
In the boys’ race, Kissel and Corydon Central’s Harrison Mann broke away from the pack early to duke it out for first. In the end, Kissel was able to pull away from Mann in the final mile to win in 17:30. Mann settled for second.
Corydon Central’s Cheyenne Smith finished third followed by Luke Burch in eigth. Ryan Hutchinson (19th) and Casey Priddy (20th) cracked the top 20.
Also in the boys’ race, South Central’s John Lopp took ninth, and Rebel harrier Nick Soots was 13th.
Meade County (Ky.) won both team titles, followed by Corydon Central and South Central.
