E. Melvin Lane
E. Melvin Lane, 82, Birdseye, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at 6:37 a.m. at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
Born Aug. 2, 1926, in Eckerty, he was the son of the late Jacob and Blance Hammonds Lane.
He served in the Army and Army Air Corps during World War II, was retired from Mulzer’s Crushed Stone, where he had worked for 17 years, was a member of the Jasper Church of the Nazarene and was a life member of the English VFW.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, the former Wanda Cook; a son, Jerry Lane of Birdseye; a daughter, Sandy Lane of Jasper; two brothers, Andy Lane of Logansport and Jack Lane of Birdseye; a sister, Bell Bean of English; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Visitation: Monday, Aug. 18, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg.
Funeral: Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home in Huntingburg with burial in Birdseye Cemetery.
Officiant: The Rev. Darrell Wineinger.
Military graveside rites: St. Anthony American Legion.
