Louisville native named Corydon Central AD

Corydon Central recently named Karen Fleck as the school’s athletic director, succeeding Michael Uhl, who stepped down to coach girls’ varsity basketball and return to teaching math courses at the school.
Fleck was the assistant athletic director at Shelby County (Ky.) High School the previous three years. Along with working the athletics office, she also taught health and physical education. She has been in teaching for seven years.
Coaching is also in Fleck’s background, having coached off and on for seven years. She led teams in softball, basketball and volleyball.
‘I’ve been looking for an athletic director’s position for some time,’ she said. ‘I thought getting an AD job would be kind of neat. I get excited about the job and getting to know the coaches and seeing the programs grow.’
Fleck, the school’s first female athletic director, is also in the process of gaining her principal certification.
Originally from Louisville, Fleck liked the proximity of Corydon and she plans to move closer to the area.
Currently, Fleck is trying to get everything in order for the upcoming fall sports season. She said once through the fall, the rest of the year should go smoothly with the transition.
The athletic department office has also changed locations, moving to the main office of the high school.
